Why "The Beach"

I know you're probably wondering why I named this blog "A Day at the Beach"... and I know what you're thinking. Life is NOT a beach -- but I disagree.

Beaches are beautiful! I don't care who you are -- I think we can all agree on that.

Just looking at that picture gives me BEACH FEVER like you wouldn't believe. I can just picture myself there right now -- sitting in a beach chair, perfect breeze, cold fruity drink, favorite song on the radio, kids laughing in the waves, the smell of sunscreen and saltwater, snacking on my favorite crackers ..

and if you're thinking I'm crazy & that's not how your beach vacations go, don't worry. That's not really how ours go either. It's nice to dream, though, right? :)

We're usually lucky if we can spend a day on the beach without getting a bad sunburn & a jellyfish sting. But, it never stops us. We always go back. We love the beach --- and everything that comes with it.

When we think about the beach - we always remember the good things. Isn't that how life is? Full of  "bad" things that don't really matter in the big picture.

We don't ever think about the crabs under the sand that are waiting to pinch you, or the sea gulls with their hawk-like eyes on your favorite cracker. 6 months after our beach vacation, the sting of our sun burn is gone --- but those memories that we made are still there, taunting us in the middle of winter making us long for sand between our toes again. We never remember all the seaweed that got in the way or the huge clumps of wet sand that we had to shake out of our swimsuits. Or at least, I never do. Because, let's face it -- even with all of that yucky stuff, a day at the beach is still pretty awesome!

In this blog, you'll hear me refer to a few different things. Let me explain them for you here:

Crabs: In this blog, if you hear me talk about crabs... I'm not talking about those pesky little guys under the sand. I'm talking about those pesky little people that pinch you with words... make little jabs at your decisions.

Sea Gulls: Those are those people in life that hover over you, waiting for you to let your guard down and swoop in when you aren't looking & steal your favorite cracker... and break your heart.

Swimsuit sand & Seaweed: I think that's pretty self explanatory --- it's just something that comes with life on the beach.

It's my sincere hope that this blog helps you to understand the ins and outs of adoption. At least ours, anyway.
